Culture and Structure
The Body Shop culture has been formed through the value and beliefs of its founder, Anita Roddick, who has been develop a unique idea that business is primarily about human relationships. Inspired by her original believe, The body shop celebrates the notion of being in business to make a contribution, rather than just to accumulate wealth by replacing the idea of “work work work” with “work, live, love and learn”*
Its culture is rather feminine with its predilection for networks, care for the environment, natural growth and combining work and family.
The organization manages within a person culture, the company believes in each individual and has managed to stay independent. The employees are crucial to the success of the business as they represents the face of the company, they are encouraged to speak out the issue that concerned them, both work wise and environmental wise. The regions and store managers have been required to report back to HQ monthly on their issues and turnover in order to reduce difficulties and create good working environment equally. The staffs share the same believe and take pride to be a part of a company, around the world, employees take part in volunteering programme help making a better society.
The company has been investing in social sustainability campaign for years, there are numbers of foundations which aim to give the profits back to employee and the resource land.
Although The Body Shop has been taken over, it has not been folded into one of L’Oreal’s four business divisions. It is a separate business unit and still staying independent.
Even though The body shop has spread its business all over the world by its franchisees, The structure is not very formal and it allows its franchisees some flexibility in how business is conducted as long as they do not go against their company culture.
